MTV VMA's Beauty Takeover by COVERGIRL

Hopefully by now You are just as tired as I am from hearing all the news surrounding Miley Cyrus and her performance at the MTV VMA's. In my opinion, it is not the first time an artist pushes the moral envelope by their onstage performance and it certainly will not be the last.

There. I am done.

Now, let's talk about something positive about that night that was NOT mentioned at all:

COVERGIRL was the official beauty sponsor for this years VMA's.

COVERGIRL at VMA

DJs NERVO (Mim & Liv) were the official deejays on the red carpet. The newest CG on the block, Becky G, also attended the VMAs for the 1st time, and debuted her CVS ‘Back to School and Back on Tour’ TV commercial.

The amazing P!NK won the 1st moonman of the night before the awards even began! The legendary R&B queen, Janelle Monae, took home a moonman too for her Erykah Badu collaboration! And last but not least, Lionsgate helped COVERGIRL debut their official #CapitolCOVERGIRL collection commercial for The Hunger Games partnership.

Mim and Liv of NERVO’s Makeup Looks:

· For Mim, COVERGIRL Clean Whipped Cream Foundation in Natural Beige (340) was applied as a base, followed by blush and two different bronzers for defined cheekbones: the Clean Glow Blush in Roses and Clean Glow Bronzer in Spices, and also TruBlend Minerals Bronzer in Golden Sunrise. The blended colors provided precise definition.

· On the eyes, she started with COVERGIRL Ink It! Liner in Black Ink and drew from the inner corner of the eye to the outer, defining the eye lid into a full cat eye shape. Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Molten Black was used to fill in the space between the outer line and the lash line. The top water line was filled with liner to enhance the thickness of her lashes. To complete the bold eye, she finished with Clump Crusher Extensions in Very Black.

· On the lips, a pop of sheer color was added using Queen Collection Jumbo Gloss Balm in Pink Diamond (800).

· Liv’s beauty look was kept really simple with a striking cat eye. She used Clean Whipped Cream Foundation in Buff Beige (325) all over her face, and then set with TruBLEND Minerals Loose Powder in Translucent Medium (415). Clean Glow Bronzer in Spices was used to contour the cheeks and finished with Clean Glow Blush in Peaches.

· A dramatic cat eye was created using a nude shadow as the base. She started with COVERGIRL Eye Enhancers in Mink (750), and then wore LineBlast 24 Hour Liner to create the sexy cat eye.

· Liv’s look was finished with a beautiful lip created using LipPerfection in Rapture (280) with a touch of Smoochies Lip Balm in Luv Bug (245) for that extra gloss.

Becky G’s Makeup Look:

· On the eyes, Becky wore a shadow one shade darker than her skin color applied all over her lid, using a fluffy eye shadow brush. On top, she wore COVERGIRL Ink It! Liner in Black Ink on her upper and lower lash lines. The liner was worked into her lashes with a small smudge brushed to give her a natural smoked-out look. To finish, her lashes were coated with COVERGIRL Flamed Out Mascara to make them really pop!

· Becky’s skin was prepped by moisturizing and applying COVERGIRL Clean Whipped Creme Foundation. A bit of COVERGIRL + Olay Concealer Balm was applied under her eyes and wherever needed. COVERGIRL Clean Glow Blush in Roses was swept along her cheeks to finish her skin and powder was applied to keep the shine away.

· Soft lips are always a must! Becky’s lips were lined and filled with a soft berry liner and applied COVERGIRL Lipslicks Smoochies Lip Balm in Be Sweet, finishing with a layer of COVERGIRL Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers Lipgloss in Papaya Splash to give her a super juicy pout.

Not only did these GC's makeup look flawless and fierce, but they also rocked some easy trendy nail art.

· For Mim, the base was COVERGIRL Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in Black Diamond, Snow Storm, Forever Fawn, and Golden Opportunity. To make the look really funky, bold accessories were added including studs, a diamond bow and gold chains. She even donned an MTV flag on one of her nails to pay homage to the VMAs!

· For Liv, the look was kept simple, starting with a base of COVERGIRL Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in Black Diamond and Snow Storm, with cool designs on each to give the look some edge.

Becky G’s Nail Look:

· COVERGIRL Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in Snow Storm was applied as the base, and embellished with the bright Outlast Stay Brilliant Glosstini colors including Bahama Mama, Lemon Drop, Sangria, and Blue Hawaiian. She wore a graffiti design, very reminiscent of the tagged Brooklyn buildings, which was achieved by tapping a sponge on the nails while they were still wet to mix the colors.

Guess Who is Coming to the Capitol this Fall? #CapitolCOVERGIRL

covergirl release photo for the hunger games movie

The Hunger Games series is one of my all-time favorite trilogies. I have read each of the three books several times. Each time I do, the story line continues to captivate my attention.  So, needless to say when the first Hunger Games movie was released last year {March 2012} I just had to go watch it in the theater.

I did. I loved it so much I have decided to collect each of the DVD's once they are released.

Now comes the hard part: Waiting for the second installment of this series to be released. I have a feeling that The Hunger Games - Catching Fire will be as epic as the first movie; if not more so.

Here's why:

HUNT VALLEY, MD - On May 17, 2013, COVERGIRL announced its first-ever major movie sponsorship of Lionsgate’s highly anticipated The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, scheduled for release in North American theaters on November 22, 2013. COVERGIRL will launch a first-of-its-kind creative advertising campaign inspired by the film, featuring new products from the brand’s upcoming Capitol Collection from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, to be announced at a later date.

Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, and Josh Hutcherson lead an all-star cast in the second installment of The Hunger Games franchise, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The trailer, which debuted last month, has been viewed over 25 million times on YouTube. The film promises to illustrate the exquisite splendor in the world of the Capitol in rich detail, and the film’s makeup department used COVERGIRL products on set to create the film’s luxurious, high couture looks.

"With The Hunger Games: Catching Fire partnership, we wanted to redefine cosmetics’ relationship to film with a fantasy-meets-reality beauty experience," said Esi Eggleston Bracey, VP and General Manager, Global P&G Cosmetics. "The film inspired COVERGIRL campaign coming out this fall truly will bring beauty transformation to life in an aspirational, dramatic fashion. All of us at COVERGIRL were captivated by Suzanne Collins’ novels and the first film, so we’re thrilled to collaborate with Lionsgate on such a bold beauty partnership with the release of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.”

“We are excited to announce COVERGIRL as the exclusive makeup partner for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” said Paula Kupfer, Lionsgate’s Vice President of Promotions and Consumer Products. “The exquisite beauty and style in the world of the Capitol is a focal point of this film. Partnering with an innovative brand like COVERGIRL to create an additional layer of beauty storytelling and inspiration for the fans is new territory that we’re delighted to explore.”

Over the past year, COVERGIRL has stood out in the beauty category with its addition of several new spokeswomen, including P!NK, Janelle Monáe and NERVO, who, along with the brand, embrace beauty with a sense of authentic individuality and fearlessness. COVERGIRL’s partnership with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is the latest expression of the brand’s passion and commitment to continue to break barriers in beauty.

Further news updates and news on this partnership will be released via facebook.com/covergirl, as well as on Twitter at twitter.com/covergirl and Instagram at instagram.com/covergirlofficial.

Now it's YOUR turn:  What are your thoughts about COVERGIRL's new partnership with Lionsgate?  Are you looking forward to seeing COVERGIRL'S new beauty looks created just for Catching Fire?  Let us know in the comments!

Get the Look: Covergirl Glam Makeup worn by Sofia Vergara

Did you watch the SAG Awards this past Sunday? I was not able to watch the entire award ceremony, however I did catch pieces here and there. As you can imagine I was very happy to see that Modern Family won for Best Comedy. The show has so many talented actors, how could they not win?

As if you have not noticed yet, Modern Family is one of my favorite TV shows. Trust me, in order for me to consider a show to be a "favorite" entails a lot! I am not the TV watching type of person. I am a bookworm by nature, however, every once in a blue moon I will make an appearance in the family room by sitting next to Mr. Man and Lil Diva.

Now let's get back to the SAG Awards, shall we?

covergirl glam makeup worn by Sofia Vergara

Not only did Modern Family win an award, but Sofia Vergara also won Best Beauty. Did you see the stunning white Donna Karan gown she was wearing? Gasp! And how about her COVERGIRL glam makeup look? I have two words to describe Sofia - Simply Flawless!

Makeup artist, Kayleen McAdams, shares how she applied Sofia's COVERGIRL glam makeup look step by step:

· Quote: “I wanted to do something fresh and new on Sofia. Her white dress gave me a bare canvas for her face, and I was able to bring an element of color with a purple eye shadow. We have never done a bright color shadow for an award show so this was our first!”

1. I started by applying COVERGIRL Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation in Classic Tan (#860) all over Sofia’s face, and then used COVERGIRL + Olay Pressed Powder in Medium along her T-Zone to set the product so it would last all night.

2. I then applied Cheekers Blush is Classic Pink to make her look bright and fresh.

3. With the eyes, I applied SmokyShadowBlast in Purple Plume all over the lid and then smudged Queen Collection Vivid Impact Eyeliner in Cabernet all along her top and bottom lashes.

4. I finished the look with three coats of Very Black Clump Crusher by LashBlast Mascara.

5. On the lips, I applied LipPerfection Lipliner in Beloved over the entire lip and then topped with the LipPerfection Jumbo Gloss Balm in Rose Twist to give a hint of glossy sheen.

All you need are a few essential COVERGIRL makeup products and you too can get the COVERGIRL Glam Look for your next special night out.

By the way, have you tried the NEW LipPerfection Jumbo Gloss Balm yet?  I haven't yet, but I am very excited to get one or two, on my next shopping trip. The gloss comes in 16 different shades and are fortified with shea and mango butters {ingredients that are crucial for taking care of our lips during these cold winter months} making these glosses a must have makeup item, right?

Sofia Vergara looks easy, breezy, beautiful at Golden Globes 2013

Were you among the millions watching the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards?  Was there a favorite Celebrity "look" that made it onto your Get the Look list for 2013?

This year, my top #1 Celebrity "look" is Latina Covergirl, Sofia Vergara. It seems to be that Sofia's style and elegance just gets better with each new Awards Ceremony.  This past Sunday during The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards, her overall makeup look was completely flawless.

{photo credit: courtesy of P&G/COVERGIRL (Getty)}

Sofia was nominated for Best Actress in a TV Comedy Series and her show ‘Modern Family’ was also nominated for Best TV Comedy Series.  Sofia is wearing an up-and-coming designer and is bedazzled in Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, and was accompanied on the red carpet by her son Manolo, owner of Nuevon on YouTube.

Here is the inside scoop from Kayleen McAdams on how to create Sofia Vergara’s Golden Globes 2013 Look:

According to the Make Up Artist, she "wanted to do a brick red lip on Sofia – something a little deeper and more interesting than a classic red lip. Old Hollywood glamour is a trend for awards season, so Sofia and I did our own twist on the look!”

Step #1 - MUA  applied Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation in Classic Tan (#860) all over and set it with COVERGIRL + Olay Pressed Powder in Medium.

Step#2 - MUA then applied a light dusting of Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer in Brown Bronze and Cheekers Blush in Sierra Sands, a warm blush, on the apples of the cheeks.

Step #3 - MUA wanted to give Sofia's eye a wash of shadow, so she  used only one shade, Eye Enhancers 1-Kit in Brown Smolder, and softly blended it over the entire lid.

Step #4 - MUA  applied LiqulineBlast Liner in Brown Blaze along the bottom lash line and extended it past the lash line to give a slight wing.

Step #5 - To finish off the look  three coats of Clump Crusher by LashBlast Mascara were applies on top to really emphasize the lashes, followed by one coat on the bottom.

Step #6 - On the lips, MUA applied Queen Collection Lipcolor in Into the Red straight from the tube, blotted and added another coat to make it last all night.  The MUA gave Sofia the lipstick to keep in her clutch so she could touch herself up throughout the night.

Get the #AMAs Beauty Looks: Taylor Swift and P!nk

Happy Tuesday Luvlies!

As we all try to get through this short work week so we can begin the Holiday festivities, this past weekend (Sunday to be exact) some of us were unwinding from the weekend  by watching the #AMA's.  Where you able to watch the American Music Award ceremonies?

From what I heard (and briefly saw) two of the most recently made Covergirls rocked the show - not only with their outstanding music performances, but with their amazing beauty looks. If you are thinking that I was referring to both Taylor Swift and P!nk, then you are absolutely correct!

Many of us (myself included!) really do look forward to these special televised events just to get a closer view of what the celebrities are wearing and what their makeup looks like.

Good news is:  You no longer have to worry about trying to figure out how to achieve both Taylor Swift's and P!nk's beauty looks - I have all the juicy details for you right here in this Get the Look beauty post!

Let's begin shall we?

COVERGIRL Taylor Swift at the 2012 American Music Awards, by makeup artist, Lorrie Turk

Taylor wanted her knock-out dress to be the inspiration for her AMA red carpet look. She wanted a high-impact look, and we needed one that could also be easily altered to go into her performance look.

I lightly buffed COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Silk Foundation onto her face with a synthetic foundation brush, and powdered only through the center of her face to leave a nice dewy finish on her skin. I then lightly brushed on TruBlend Minerals Blush in True Romance for some soft color and shimmer.

I started by dabbing on (using my fingertip) COVERGIRL Intense Shadow Blast in Brown Bling as a base. Next, I brushed on (with an eyeshadow brush) Eye Enhancers 1-kit shadow in Brown Smolder all over the lid, from the lash-line to just beneath her brow bone and her lower lash-line. Using Liquiline Blast Eyeliner in Black Fire, I then lined her upper and lower lash-line heavily, blending up and out to eliminate hard lines, leaving her eyes soft and smoky. We finished with several coats of (New!) LashBlast Clump Crusher mascara in Very Black.

Lastly, I used NatureLuxe Gloss Balm in Grenache, applying it directly from the tube.

COVERGIRL P!NK at the 2012 American Music Awards, by makeup artist, Kathy Jeung

P!NK’s beautiful bronze leather and chiffon dress was modern and strong, yet feminine, so we wanted to do a makeup that reflected that, a simple, paired down but glowing, glamorous beauty look. We've been doing a lot of smokey eyed looks lately, so thought we'd mix it up and do a look that felt a bit like old Hollywood glamour, but in a modern way, with focus on the eyes, especially the lash line and lashes.

I applied foundation using a foundation brush and then further blended with a moistened sponge, then set with a light dusting of COVERGIRL Professional Loose Powder  powder around the t-zone. For touch-ups, I used COVERGIRL Clean Oil Control Pressed Powder.   I first applied a peach shade blush, CG Classic Color Blush in Natural Glow on the apples of the cheek and blended outward and up. Then I applied a shimmery bronzer, CG Cheekers Bronzer in Golden Tan along the upper outer cheekbone area and also on outer temples (upper sides of face near eyes).

For eyebrows, I used a few soft strokes of CG Brow & EyeMakers Pencil in Soft Blonde  to define, then brushed into place with CG Profession Natural Lash clear mascara. For the eyes, I first applied CG Eye Enhancers in Champagne all over the lid and on the brow bone. Next I applied a bronze shadow, CG Eye Enhancers in Mink into the crease and blended well. Along the outer corner of the eye, I used a metallic color that wonderfully matched her dress, CG Eye Enhancers in Tapestry Taupe. To get depth along the lash line, CG Liquiline Blast Eyeliner in Black Fire, drawn with a bit of a cat eye shaped at the outer corners, then smudged. Over that to further define, I used CG LineBlast 24 Hour Eyeliner in Enduring Black, in a thin line along lash line. Along the outer lower lash line, I again used CG Eye Enhancers in Tapestry Taupe to accent to cat eye shape.

To add a little more dimension and to further blend, I added CG Cheekers Bronzer in Copper Radiance in the area around the brow bone with a medium fluffy brush. Over curled lashes, I apply 2 coats of CG Clump Crusher by LashBlast Mascara in Very Black on the top lashes. Because of its amazing staying power with no smudges, I used CG LashBlast 24HR Mascara on the lower lashes - 2 coats to really bring out her already long lower lashes.

For P!NKs performance, I lined the inside upper and lower rims of eyes with CG Liquiline Blast Eyeliner in Black Fire and added CG Eye Enhancers in Shimmering Onyx around the outer corners of her eyes, then colored cream shadow and pigment powders all over her face and body).

My thoughts:
Personally, I love both of these beauty looks. Taylor's makeup can easily be worn as an everyday look. On the other hand, P!nk's edgy makeup is perfect for a night out with the hubbs or a night out with the girls.  Honestly, I have to admit that I am having a hard time picking which makeup look to wear first!

Now it's Your turn:
Now that you have the inside scoop on how to duplicate these looks along with which Covergirl products to use, which makeup look suits your personality the best?   Are you a sleek and sophisticated diva like Taylor Swift; or are you more of an modern edgy "old Hollywood" rocker girl like P!nk?

Throwback Thursday: A Closer Look at Covergirl P!nk at the MTV Awards

Of all the beauty brands out there, Covergirl has certainly made positive strides in selecting women who are not only beautiful but that are successful, happy with who they are, relate able, confident and unique.

Personally, one of my favorite Covergirls has to be P!nk hands down. (My first favorite is Sofia Vergara, but I think you already knew that!)  I always have enjoyed listening to her music so to see her now in all her beauty really is a sight to see.

Last week I shared a photo of P!nk for Wordless-Wednesday - which you can see again here. At the end of that post, I mentioned that I would be sharing a sort of "Throwback - Thursday" post about P!nk's makeup look she adorned at the MTV Music Awards last month.

Here is a close up shot of P!nk walking down the Red Carpet:

She is simply glowing. Her makeup is truly flawless. The makeup has a very natural appearance - P!nk does not look overdone.  Makeup Artist, Kathy Jeung, did an outstanding  job putting P!nk's entire look together for the Red Carpet and her onstage performance.

Here is exactly how Kathy Jeung created this Red Carpet look:

"I applied COVERGIRL Natureluxe Silk Foundation using a foundation brush and moistened blender sponge. I then set with a dusting of COVERGIRL Professional Loose Powder. We used
COVERGIRL Clean Oil Control Pressed Powder for touch ups throughout the night."

How eye products were applied:

For the eyebrows:
"I used a few soft strokes of COVERGIRL Brow & EyeMakers Pencil in Soft Blonde to define, then brushed into place with COVERGIRL Professional Natural Lash Mascara in Clear."

For the eyes:
"I first applied COVERGIRL Eye Enhancers 1-Kit Shadow in Champagne all over the lid and brow bone as a base color. Next, I applied COVERGIRL SmokyShadowBlast in Onyx Smoke, using the dark grey side over the lid and into the crease. Over this I added COVERGIRL Queen Collection Eyeshadow Quads in Lionqueen, using the grey color to intensify and add more dimension."

Along the lower lash line
"I used COVERGIRL Liquiline Blast Eyeliner in Silver Spark and to add a little more dimension and to further blend; I added COVERGIRL Eye Enhancers 1-Kit Shadow in Golden Sunrise in the area just under the brow bone with a medium fluffy brush. Over curled lashes, I applied two coats of COVERGIRL LashBlast 24HR Mascara in Very Black."

How lip products were applied:
"I prepare the lips with a lip balm when I'm doing skin preparation so it has a chance to absorb into lips. I then lined the lips with COVERGIRL LipPerfection Lipliner in Smoky and applied COVERGIRL OutLast All-Day Lipcolor in Faint Hue."

Although the makeup used for P!nk's Red Carpet entrance was beautiful, my favorite was the way she looked when she came out on stage for her performance.

The change in P!nk's make-up was more dramatic - very fitting of  her normal "punk" style.  This is probably why this look was my favorite.

Here's how P!nk's performance make-up look was created by Kathy Jeung:

"I added COVERGIRL Eye Enhancers 1-Kit Shadow in Shimmering Onyx along the lower lash line, then lined the inside upper and lower rims of eyes with COVERGIRL Queen Collection Vivid Impact Eyeliner in Midnight. Using clear eyelash glue, I adhered appliqués onto her eyes that I cut out of red patent leather."

How cheek products were applied:
"I first applied COVERGIRL Cheekers Blush in Pretty Peach on the apples of the cheeks and blended outward and up. Then I applied COVERGIRL Cheekers Bronzer in Copper Radiance along the upper outer cheekbone area and also on outer temples (upper sides of face near eyes)."

How lip products were applied:
"I started with applying COVERGIRL LipPerfection Lipliner in Passion to define the lip edges then lightly powdered the edges to set, especially since I was working with a strong color.
After applying COVERGIRL Queen Collection Lip Color in Ruby Slipper, I blotted the lips after the first coat with a tissue, lightly powdered the edges with a powder puff and re-applied the lip color using a lip brush for extra staying power and intensity."

Now it's your turn:  Which was your favorite P!nk makeup look? Her Red Carpet "natural" look, or her Performance "dramatic punk" look?  Share your thoughts in the comments!
