Get the Look: Beautiful Hair with Pantene Pro-V

pantene logo

This week's "get the look" featured post is going to be all about getting shiny beautiful hair. Last Wednesday, February 20th, some of the top Latino artists in entertainment gathered at the American Airlines Arena in downtown Miami, Florida for Univision’s annual prestige awards, Premio Lo Nuestro. Among these stars was the beautiful actress/singer Maite Perroni, advocate of Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths program.

Maite’s beauty glam look was created by Gabriel Samra, celebrity hairstylist for Pantene. Gabriel used the New Pantene Pro-V Stylers Collection. So as you can imagine by looking at the photo below, as soon as Maite walked the red carpet she instantly became a global trending topic on Twitter.

Maite Perroni on the red carpet at premios lo nuestro 2013

Does Maite not have the most beautiful healthy looking hair? I personally love it - especially the length of her hair. I cannot wait until my hair grows to this length; but enough about me ....

Let's take a look at how we can achieve Maite Perroni’s Red Carpet Look by following the three steps that celebrity hairstylist Gabriel Samra did to get this look:

1. Step 1: To start the transformation, Gabriel blow-dried Maite's hair using a big round brush to straighten from root to tip.

2. Step 2: Once dry, her hair was then separated in top and bottom layers, clipping the top layer to keep it out of the way. Then, the bottom layer was sectioned in 2-inch sections and sprayed with Pantene Pro-V Stylers Heat Protection Spray to protect the hair from heat damage and enhance its shine. Using a flat iron, Gabriel straightened each section from root to tip, taking 3-5 seconds per section. Once the bottom layer of her hair was completely flattened, he repeated the above steps to the top layer.

3. Step 3: For the finishing touches, a comb was used to smooth and put hair in desired place. Finally, Gabriel sprayed Pantene Pro-V Stylers Flexible Hold Hair Spray throughout Maite's long hair because its flexible hold maintains hair’s natural movement and makes the look seem effortless!

This seems simple enough, doesn't it? All you need to have are a few essential tools {blow dryer, flat iron, big round brush, comb, Pantene Pro-V Stylers Heat Protection Spay and Pantene Pro-V Stylers Flexible Hold Hair Spray} and you can create this same Red Carpet Look everyday.

7 Steps to help You deal with Anxiety

Have you ever been in a situation that brought on sweats, rapid heartbeat and shortness of breath? In most cases, you probably weren't having a heart attack but instead, you were experiencing an anxiety attack.

I can recall my very first anxiety attack which was three years ago {October 10, 2010 to be exact} as if it were happening right now. I will not bore you with the details, but the reason why I felt that it was a good idea to write a post about it, is because currently I have found myself experiencing sudden moments of anxiousness. In this case, I know what the issue is: We are in the process of moving our home/offices to another house and it appears to be that the entire process is taking much longer than we had anticipated.

Knowing what situations can potentially bring on an anxiety attack, can help diffuse the episode; by no means does it stop the anxiety attack from happening, but it can certainly help calm down the situation.

Anxiety is characterized as extreme reactions to fearful situations, or in my case, anxiety is shown by anger and bouts of rage. In the case of frequent anxiety, the fearful/angry feelings are actually the reaction of dreading a particular situation and not the situation itself {believe it or not, this is a factor that often gets overlooked by many people who may not know otherwise}.

At some point in time, we all have experiences of panic or anxiety in small ways. For most people they may feel anxious if they have entered into a new situation, like a new job or new school. This is considered to be very normal behavior. However, for someone with chronic anxiety, this is not the case.

As someone who suffers from severe anxiety and panic attacks, I have slowly learned a few steps that help keep my anxiety under control. I am  not a doctor, but since some of these tips have really helped me, I wanted to take a moment today and share them with others who may feel or who may be experiencing more anxiety than normal.

So, here it goes:

1. See a professional. This is always a good first step. Self-diagnosis of any type of physical or mental condition is unwise and can be dangerous. A professional psychologist can help you understand your anxiety and prescribe medication or other effective techniques.

2. Get a good night’s sleep. During the sleep cycle, your body repairs itself. You feel more rested after several hours of restorative sleep. One important tip I learned was to try and relax my mind before actually relaxing physically.  So this is what I try to do:  About an hour or so before actually going to bed, I remove everything that is used to stimulate me mentally. This means no TV, no smart phones, no laptops, no other type of electronic devices - Nothing! I recommend having very soft lighting in the bedroom, perhaps a lit candle or night light, paired with soothing music played at a very low setting. This is one of the methods that I try to use every night - I am not going to lie, some nights it works better than others, but I still give it a try.

3. Exercise on a consistent basis. Exercise helps you to use oxygen more efficiently. It helps to get more oxygen to the brain. It also increases focus which may help you see solutions to problems rather than simply worrying about them.

4. Meditate Meditation is more than chanting mantras. Yoga is an exercise that involves quieting the mind and controlling your breathing. Simple mediation such as taking 5 minutes to clear your mind everyday can work wonders in the fight against anxiety.

5. Manage the worry. When you feel your pulse start to quicken, count backwards from ten. As you count, focus on the situation. What has actually happened? Resist the urge to read anything more into the situation.

6. Don’t use alcohol. You might think that the glass of wine is relaxing your tension but alcohol is a depressant. In anxious situations you could rely too heavily on it and gain another problem in the process.

7. Find some relaxing activities. Stress can rob you of your energy. On a regular basis, do something you like such as gardening, painting, reading or even cooking - which is one main activity that I do everyday and it helps!

Anxiety can come into your life at any time. It’s normal and a part of our everyday routine; but when the anxiety becomes frequent,  you could be at risk for more serious conditions. If you feel your anxiety is starting to take over your life or increasingly causing you problems, I highly recommend taking the time to seek professional help immediately. There is no need to suffer this terrible condition in silence - Take it from me - Stuffing your feelings rather than speaking with someone for years will rear its ugly head sooner rather than later!

Now it's YOUR turn: Do you or someone you know suffer from anxiety attacks? If so, do you have any tips that can help other manage or diffuse their attacks? Let us know in the comments!

Get flawless skin coverage with L'Oreal Paris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream

Earlier this week we shared tips on how to keep makeup looking fresh longer {to see post click HERE}. We mentioned that before executing the simple four step makeup application it is important to apply a foundation or BB cream to your skin.

Several cosmetic companies, both high end and drugstore brands, have given into the beauty balm craze by designing their own particular version. There are so many different BB Creams in the market that trying to keep up with them can be frustrating, not to mention time consuming. Here in the offices, we have certainly had a "go at it" by playing with several different versions of BB creams as well as comparing them to one another. Some are just okay, while others are just awesome products.

One of the BB Creams that stood out the most was L'Oreal Paris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream.

loreal paris magic bb cream bottle

This is not the only BB Cream that L'Oreal has in the market, however this one is special - This is an all -in-one beauty solution that is formulated to do all of the following: prime, perfect, hydrate and correct skin.

loreal paris magic bb cream white on hand

When the BB Cream is released from the tube, it is white in color; however when you look at the cream up-close you can see that it has tiny gray beads in it. The texture of the BB Cream is very thin,  light, almost on the watery side of liquids.

loreal magic bb cream smoothen out

After a few stokes of blending the BB Cream, the color of the liquid begins to change. The little gray beads in the cream are self adjusting - meaning that with the help of these tiny beads the cream will instantly transform into your skin tone.

loreal magic bb cream completely buffed out on skin

As you can see in this photo, just after a few blending strokes, the BB Cream went from white to a beautiful medium skin tone.

Now let's take a look at what L'Oreal Paris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream looks like on your skin.

loreal paris magic bb cream self photo

In this photo, you can see that the BB Cream definitely gives your skin an even color and texture. What I prefer to do is put a dot or so of BB Cream on  the back of my hand, then using my ring finger I dab the cream on my forehead, cheeks, chin and neck.

Then in gentle blending motion, using the tips of my fingers I proceed to blend in the cream into my skin just the same way I apply any other type of facial lotion. I noticed that the BB Cream does not take long to blend and when it has fully dried, your skin does not feel wet or sticky. The texture of your skin is soft and hydrated.

One of the four beautifying actions that this BB Cream is supposed to do is correct skin. At first, I will admit that I was very skeptical - thinking that the cream is so light in consistency that it is going to be impossible for it to correct my skin because unfortunately, I have been dealing with adult breakouts on my jawline and neck of all places.

I was proven wrong. The BB Cream not only provided a good coverage, but it also helped camouflage the redness around the breakouts.  I did use a tad bit of concealer on top of certain areas, but that was only because I do that regardless of what product I use. However, with that being said, the BB Cream gave my skin such a flawless look, I only used a little loose powder on my t-zone to avoid excess oil from forming as I have very oily skin.

So, if I had to rate the L'Oreal Paris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being the lowest rate possible, I would certainly give this BB Cream a solid 5.  Not only does the product perform the way it is formulated to, but this BB cream can be used everyday either as a primer or completely by itself.  I love that!

To get your hands on a tube of your own, you can check out the makeup aisle at any Drugstore or order it here and save about 50%.

Now it's YOUR turn: Have you tried L'Oreal Paris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream yet? If so, or even if you have not had a chance yet, let us know in the comments!

How to Keep Makeup Looking Fresh Longer

Don't you just love the way Lana Del Rey looks in this photo? Without a doubt, Lana Del Rey  is  absolutely stunning. This could be due to her skin care regimen, her genes or her flawless appearance can very well be the result of proper makeup application techniques. Not to hate on Lana Del Rey but I am going with the later.

Every woman wants to know how to keep their makeup on all day. What's comforting to know is that you do not have to be a professional Makeup Artist to achieve a flawless look, nor should you have to rely on certain products that are labeled "long-wearing". The comforting news is: You can keep your makeup looking fresh from dusk 'til dawn just by using proper application techniques and applying one essential product: loose powder.

That's right: Loose powder is your complexion's best friend!

Now that we know we need to use loose powder in our makeup routine, let's breakdown the required application steps to achieve a "flawless face" ....

After applying either a foundation or BB cream {read about L'Oreal Paris Magic BB Cream HERE} continue with the following steps:

Step 1: Apply Concealer : Gently dot concealer and blend using your finger or concealer brush around the under-eye area. Seal coverage by lightly sweeping the area with a small powder brush dusted with sheer, loose powder.

To try: RIMMEL LONDON MATCH PERFECTION LOOSE TRANSPARENT POWDER

Step 2: Cream Blush : I am a firm believer that less is more…especially with cream products. Because of its consistency, it is the nature of cream blush to move on the face. One way to prevent this from happening is to apply a dusting of sheer loose powder over the cheeks after you have applied the blush to keep it where it belongs-on your cheeks.

To try: SEPHORA COLLECTION DOUBLE CONTOURING CREAM BLUSH NO 02 CORAL FLUSH

Step 3: Eyeliner: Eyeliner smudges by nature, but applying a waterproof eyeliner can also help the product last longer than using a regular version of eyeliner. Rather than using black, which can look harsh, I often recommend trying navy blue.

To try: LANCOME LE STYLO WATERPROOF LONG-LASTING EYELINER

Step 4: Lipstick/Lip Gloss: There are products on the market made specifically to prevent feathering, and a secret trick of mine that I always use if I don't have a  Lip Glossing/No Feather Pencil on me is to dab foundation on your fingertip and smooth it over your lip line. This smooths out any lines around the mouth and provides an even surface for lip color to adhere and stick to.

To Try: PIXI GLOW TINKER BELL MAGIC TINK TINT LIP GLOSS

Now that we covered the basic makeup products you will need, are you left trying to figure out which colors/shades complement you the best?

Here's a surprising tip I learned a few years ago from a Makeup Artist: To identify colors that will work for you, use your hair as a guide, not your eyes! If you're blonde, go with creams and taupes. Brunettes look great in mochas and chocolate browns. If you're auburn or a redhead, choose shades of copper and peach, or cool tones like pinks and lavenders. Gray hair looks gorgeous with tones of grays, soft purples and blues.

However, if you're still unsure about colors, stick to neutrals. You can still achieve drama and variety with neutral tones-they're actually my favorite to work with. Or, to make it really simple, pick up one of the Face Palettes from brands like Almay, Sonia Kashuk and Physicians Formula, which are designed to correspond to your specific eye hue for complementary colors.

Now it's YOUR turn: Did you find these tips helpful? If so, please feel free to share this post with your network of friends! Still have questions regarding makeup application techniques? Let us know in the comments and we will do our best to answer your questions!

We were extremely excited to hear the news that we were going to be receiving the awaited February Valentine SpiceBox themed: "Let the Fun Begin!" As you can imagine this spice-box was designed to help you have a fantastic and sensual Valentines Day.  Hopefully I have peaked your curiosity, so without further delay, let's take a look at what products were inside this month's Spicy Subscription Valentine SpiceBox.....

february spicebox from spicy subscriptions
"Let the FUN Begin!"  Valentines SpiceBox

body icing

My Joy Collection Edible Body Icing {FULL SIZE} This is an edible icing that can be applied by using your fingers or paint brush {came included in box}. The jar is 1.5 oz in size and came in their Sensual Strawberry flavor.

body warmer massager
Heart's Desire Warming Massager {FULL SIZE} As seen above, the heart shaped messager has a bend metal disc on the inside that when activated it produces a heat source. The massager heats up to 129 degrees F {which is 54 degrees C}. The messager provides a very gentle yet warm sensation by gliding it gently over the skin.

benwen balls for women

Ben Wa Balls {FULL SIZE} These Oriental balls are used to help women strengthen their vaginal walls and bladder muscles. {more info to follow after this post,  trust me!}

crazy girl body mist
Crazy Girl body mist {SAMPLE} This sample is a flirty body mist infused with a pheromone sex attractant to entice and inspire sexiness. Inside the sample envelope was a small wet tissue that is used to apply the body mist onto the skin as evenly as possible. The scent of this sample was "pink cupcake."

dona paper rose petals
DONA Rose Petals {FULL SIZE} The plastic container was filled with bright red faux rose petals.

frolic women lubricant

Frolic Specialty Toy Lubricant for Women {SAMPLE} This product is water based and glycerin free. For topical uses only - this product is not a contraceptive and does not contain spermicide.

hot lips for women

My Joy Collection Hot Lips {SAMPLE} This sample is a flavored massage oil. Made with Shea butter in the Ice Cream Cake Kiss flavor. Massage oil can be applied to several parts of the body providing a tingling sensation.

max protect for men

Max 4 Men Max Protect Moisture Control Balm {SAMPLE} The last sample included in the box is for MEN only. The moisture balm is unscented and pheromone infused - to be applied post shave providing protection to the skin. The balm is sugar free, sulfate free, and paraben free which means that this product can be used by all skin types.

My Findings:

I was surprised to see that there was a sample enclosed for men. Typically, most of the samples and products sent in these monthly subscription boxes are more centered around us women, which is perfectly fine, however it was a nice touch.

The Crazy Girl body mist is something that I would probably purchase for myself. The sample I received was in the "pink cupcake" scent - it smelled just like cupcake batter. Although the aroma was sweet it was not over bearing; and the aroma actually lasted longer than other body mists' I have tried in the past.

The DONA Rose Petals gave the spicebox a "romantic" vibe. There are more than enough petals to cover a good portion of a King sized bed.  The petals are soft and bendable - not like the plastic ones  I've seen! There are several uses for these faux rose petals other than the obvious: place some on the floor creating a trail to something unexpected, draw a bubble bath and place them in the tub to float around the surface of the water, place some on top of the table as decorations for a romantic dinner by candlelight...possibilities are endless.

Spicy Subscriptions really has set the bar very high for other "adult beauty" monthly subscription services. If you were to tally up the total prices of the full sized products that were included in this Valentine SpiceBox, it would easily supersede the amount of the subscriptions itself. Not to mention, that out of all the items, three of them {DONA Rose Petals, Warming Body Messager, and  Ben Wa Balls} have future usage.

Now we are left with the Warming Body Messager, the Body Icing from the My Joy Collection and of course, the Spicy Subscriptions Ben Wa Balls. Please stay tuned for another video revealing along with another post covering everything that needs to be said about the Ben Wa Balls!

Need I say more?  Ah, YES! Now here's something special just for YOU:

For everyone of our readers and friends who Sign up for a Spicy Subscription {HERE} using CODE{latinflavadesigns} will get a SPECIAL DISCOUNT on your Spice Box!! After joining and using your code, please send an email to info@spicysubscriptions.com to let them know you learned about the Spicy Box through LatinFlava Designs.

Disclosure: Spicy Subscriptions and I have agreed to a partnership where I received a complimentary monthly Premium Spice Box for this review. All opinions and photos are 100% my own. To read our complete disclosure policy please refer to our Disclosure Page at the top of this website. Thank you!

Casual Everyday Makeup with Starlooks Tutorial

In our first Starlooks Starbox review for 2013, we promised that we would be working on other ways to wear the cosmetics that we had reviewed. Today we wanted to share one look that we put together using the 858 Dome Brush, both Brown and Diamondline eye liners and the Blush Compact in Cuty Peach.

To see up-close photos of each of the mentioned items, please check them out in our previous review: January 2013 Starlooks Starbox {HERE}

If you follow our Instagram feed {HERE}you would have noticed that yesterday we were experiencing a little bit of a "bad hair" day, however as you will see below this did not stop us from wearing makeup!

starlooks full blush photo side view

starlooks blush photo

What we did was apply Cuty Peach to the cheeks using a stippling brush. This blush has a light to medium peach tone {in the photos the blush looks a bit darker than when it is applied to the skin} and is very saturated with color. Depending on your skin tone, you can either apply this blush with a lighter hand if you are on the fair/pale side; however, if you are like me a medium tone, then you can certainly use a tad bit more.

starlooks olive eye look

For the eye look, we wanted to compliment the brown tones in the eyes. For this we used a light purple mineral eye-shadow over the lid and into crease using the 858 Dome Brush. Next, using the Brown Eye Liner, we lined the upper and lower lash lines.

To soften the brown liner, we then applied the Diamondline Eye Liner in Fancy on top of the brown on the upper lid only. Doing this application, turned the eye liner into a soft olive color - complementing both the shade of purple eye shadow and the brown tones in the eyes. In order to complete the eyes, a coat of black mascara was applied to the upper and lower lashes. We decided that no falsies were going to be applied, we will next time though!

This over all look is perfect for everyday wear:  it's not too busy but brings out the eyes and cheeks. To keep this look subdued, the lips remained semi-nude with a light application of lip gloss.

Products Used in these photos:

Five Easy Toning Exercises you can Do Anywhere

five easy toning exercises you can do anywhere

As we begin another week, I wanted to talk about something that we all need to consider adding to our daily/weekly schedules: Exercising.

Many of us had made the resolution of becoming healthier this year. Some of us are making time to exercise, others maybe not as often as we would like.  This is completely understandable.

However, it is important to realize that exercise, even some degree of physical activity, is an crucial part of our lives. Staying in shape is one way to increase our life expectancy. Most of us have a general idea of what to do when it comes to exercising. The problem is where and when to get the job done. With a busy lifestyle, making time for exercise is a challenge.

Okay, we agree: making time for exercise can be challenging BUT it's not impossible!

Here are five easy toning exercises that can be done anywhere and whenever you have time.  These easy yet effective exercises can be done while your at home, at the office, or on vacation.

1. The Bridge Butt Lift – Sounds like a plastic surgery technique but it is an easy way to tone your buttocks. Lay down with feet flat on the floor, legs shoulder width apart. Place your hands, palm side down, on either side of your body. Pushing with your feet, squeeze your gluteal muscles and lift your butt off the floor. Hold the position for a count of five to ten and release down to the floor.

2. Squats – Squats work the butt, the hamstring muscles and the quadriceps. If you aren't sure of proper form, you can use a chair. Stand with feet shoulder width apart and feet firmly planted. Push your butt back as if you were preparing to sit in a chair. Keep your abs tight and your upper body straight. Once you reach chair level stop and hold the position for a count of two to five and release. At the lowest point, place all of your weight on your heels for balance and maximum toning.

3. Reverse Lunges – Lunges work the quadriceps muscles. They can be hard for people with knee problems. A reverse lunge still tones the right muscle groups but with less pressure on the knee. Stand with feet together and arms at your sides. Take one leg and move it backwards until you are in lunge position: front leg bent at a 90 degree angle and back leg extended until you are on the ball of your foot. From this position lower yourself down until the back knee almost touches the floor. Hold for a count of two and return to starting position.

4. Push-ups – This is a classic toning exercise that works all areas of the arms plus the chest muscles. If you aren't comfortable or strong enough to perform a push-up on your toes, lower your body to your knees. Be sure your arms are tucked into the body and your back straight as you lower and lift your body.

5. Crunches – Abdominal muscles can be worked every day to build strength and muscle tone. Lying on the floor in sit up position, lace your fingers behind your head. Squeezing your abdominal muscles, lift your upper body until your lower back is about to come off the floor. Hold for two to five counts and return to starting position.

These five exercise moves can be done whenever you have time. The best thing about exercise is that its effects are cumulative. Even five or ten minutes at a time will work to your advantage.

DIY Beautifying Smoothies for Healthier Hair, Skin and Hydration

It's been a while since we last shared a do-it-yourself beauty post, so we wanted to get back on track by sharing not one but three different do-it-yourself beauty recipes. Yes, you read that correctly - three new beautifying smoothie recipes.

Warning: These are not going to be the usual recipes; these beauty elixirs are from one of Hollywood's hottest Nutritionists, Kimberly Snyder, who shared these with the editing team at OK magazine.

Are you ready to see what smoothies are recommended for our hair, skin and hydration?

diy beautifying smoothies for healthier hair skin and hydration

First up: Stronger Healthier Hair

A green smoothie like the one below packs a week's worth of veggies in one single serving. How long does it take before the results are noticeable?  According to the article, it's said that skin will appear more vibrant after one week, and both hair and nails are healthier after one month of drinking this green smoothie. Not that bad, huh?

The Glowing Green Smoothie
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 head organic, romaine lettuce, chopped
  • 3-4 stalks organic celery
  • 1/2 head of a large bunch or 3/4 of a small bunch of spinach
  • 1 organic apple, cored and chopped
  • 1 organic pear, cored and chopped
  • 1/3 bunch organic cilantro
  • 1/3 bunch organic parsley
  • 1 organic banana
  • Juice of 1/2 fresh organic lemon
Add water and chopped head of romaine to blender. Blend at low speed until smooth. Add in celery, apple and pear - blend on high speed. Add in cilantro and parsley. Finish by adding in banana and lemon juice.

Next up: Smooth Radiant Skin

This smoothie has one super food that is essential for our skin's health: the Acai Berry. The Acai Berry has a very high content of omega 3 fatty acids, amino acids, minerals, vitamins, and fiber.

Rain-forest Acai Smoothie
  • 2 cups unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 packet frozen acai
  • 1 tbsp. raw cacao (this ingredient is optional)
  • Stevia to taste
  • 1/2 avocado (this is also optional)
Using a blender, blend the acai and almond milk at low speed until you have broken down the acai, then move to a higher speed. Once the liquid is smooth, add in the cacao and Stevia. Add the avocado to make this smoothie into a much denser snack or have this for dessert.

Lastly: Hydration and Added Antioxidants

The essential ingredient to this smoothie is the chia seed. These little seeds provide antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and fiber. It is also said that the seed is capable of absorbing 10 times their weight in water which will help keep you hydrated all day long.

Power Protein Smoothie
  • 2 cups unsweetened almond milk, or water
  • 1/4 cup hemp or brown rice protein powder
  • 1-2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/2 frozen acai smoothie packet
  • liquid Stevia to sweeten
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Add the almond milk and or water to the blender first, then add in all the remaining ingredients. Blend until completely smooth.

In my opinion, I think I prefer the fruit smoothies over the Green Smoothie. Although, I am looking forward to trying the Glowing Green Smoothie, I am just not completely sure how I will react to this mix of veggies. One detail that I can point out is that most of the ingredients needed for these beauty recipes can be easily found in the organic/natural section of most grocery stores; if that is not the case in your local area, then I would suggest perhaps visiting a specialty store, such as Trader Joe's instead.
