6 Drugstore Makeup Products Good Enough for the Red Carpet

6 Drugstore Makeup Products Good Enough for the Red Carpet

Oscars '15 : Drugstore Makeup

Whoever said that celebrities only wear higher end makeup products lied.  Word on the street, or should I say red carpet, is that quite a few of our favorite celebrities created their stunning makeup looks with...drumroll please...: drugstore makeup products.

So which celebrities were wearing drugstore makeup products? And more importantly, which makeup products did they wear?

1. ZOE SALDANA

Zoe's lusciously long lashes were achieved by wearing a few coats of L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara in Black. (Target, $5.89)

2. RITA ORA

Rita was wearing a navy blue cat-eye courtesy of Rimmel London's ScandalEyes Shadow Stick in Naughty Navy layered on-top of a black eyeliner. (Walgreens, $4.29)

3. CHRISSY TEIGAN

This dark shade of berry looked absolutely stunning on Chrissy. What was applied on her lips?  Maybelline New York's Color Sensational Creamy Mattes lipstick in Divine Wine. (Walmart, $5.50)

4. NAOMI WATTS

Another berry hued lip courtesy of L'Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Color in Violet Parfait.(Ulta, $12.99)

5. KERRY WASHINGTON

Uh, did you see how gorgeous she looked? I died when I saw her walk down the red carpet. Kerry's shimmering eye look was created using Neutrogena's Long Wear Nourishing Eyeshadow Palette in Cocoa Mauve 40.(Amazon, $8.90)

6. EMMA STONE

We all know her as being Revlon's brand ambassador, but it's still nice to see her actually wearing their makeup. On Emma's lips is Revlon's Ultra HD Lipstick in Tulip. (Walmart, $7.97)

Now let's talk: Which of these six drugstore makeup products have you used? Are there any other drugstore makeup products you believe to be good enough for the red carpet? Tell me all about it ....

Top Hair Trend Predictions for the Red Carpet 2015 by Chi Hair Care

As we anxiously wait for the upcoming 2015 Golden Globe Awards this Sunday (Jan.11), waiting to see what the red carpet looks will bring us - from fashion to hair, our curiosity is peaked! Each year, these trends dictate what we will see for the remaining red carpet season.

With Farouk Systems being one of the leaders in hair care and with a talented team of hair artists creating trends year round, two top educators share their predictions.

#1 - Romantic Soft Waves

hair trend for the red carpetTammy Mixon, Farouk Systems Global Board Artist and lead Hair Artist for Miss Universe, predicts the upcoming award season will showcase soft tousled hair. According to Tammy, “We will see romantic, soft waves with side parts for long and short hair. Also, loosely swept backs coiffures. These looks will help to embellish lace adorned gowns, romantic prints and soft fabrics.”

To help achieve these looks, her favorite products to prep a set with are BioSilk Silk Therapy - applied lightly to the mid-shaft and ends. She also uses BioSilk Natural Hold Hairspray, sprayed from the roots to the ends, on each section as its being set. During the comb outs, Tammy recommends to lightly tap BioSilk Volumizing Therapy Texturizing Powder into the roots and mid-shaft to add volume and texture. What about hair color? Tammy sees beautiful blondes, copper reds and pretty pinks making a big statement for hair color.

#2 - Braids

hair trend prediction for red carpet

Lorena Garcia, Farouk Systems Creative Artist forecasts braids will be incorporated into many red carpet styles. These will include all types of braided looks -- tight, loose or messy, enlivened by adding an accessory. Along with braids Lorena states, “waves will also dominate the award ceremonies-but will be sleek waves -- nothing messy, as well as straight sleek looks, combed straight back or with a down the center part.”

To achieve these looks, Lorena recommends prepping the hair with CHI Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray as it helps protect the hair against thermal styling heat. To style, she uses CHI Magnified Firm Hold Hairspray and finishes the look with CHI Shine Spray for a polished look that will catch the spotlight.

Steal This Look: Loose Sexy Waves for Long Hair

loose sexy waves for long hair

This year during the People En Espanol's 50 Mas Bellos Red Carpet Event held at the Marquee in NYC, the beautiful actress and singer Maite Perroni dazzled everyone. Maite showed up on the Red Carpet  in a very modern silver and gold sequined short- length jumpsuit, celebrating her fifth nomination as one of People en Español’s 50 Most Beautiful.

Not only did Maite's stylist, Irma Martinez {ambassador for P&G} do an amazing job, Maite's long loose sexy waves caught our attention as well.

Renowned hairstylist, Antonio Rosales tells us exactly how he created that wavy loose hairstyle to complement Maite’s look and how to get those soft, voluminous and seductive waves.

Steal This Look in Five Easy Steps:

Step 1: To start transforming Maite’s natural straight hair, I applied Pantene Heat Protection Spray to protect hair from heat damage and prepare for styling.

Step 2: I divided the hair on top of the head in two sections and used two large rollers, one for each side of the head to add volume at the root.

Step 3: After the top hair has been rolled, I sectioned the bottom hair in ½ inch sections and used a curling iron to create many closed waves.

Step 4: Once all hair was completely wavy, I removed the two rollers and asked Maite to flip her head back to be able to finger comb her waves to loosen them up and transform into soft waves.

Step 5: And finally, I couldn't let her go without my final touch! I sprayed Pantene Pro-V Stylers Flexible Hold Hairspray throughout Maite's long hair to maintain the volume and seal the style so it will last all night.

Throwback Thursday: A Closer Look at Covergirl P!nk at the MTV Awards

Of all the beauty brands out there, Covergirl has certainly made positive strides in selecting women who are not only beautiful but that are successful, happy with who they are, relate able, confident and unique.

Personally, one of my favorite Covergirls has to be P!nk hands down. (My first favorite is Sofia Vergara, but I think you already knew that!)  I always have enjoyed listening to her music so to see her now in all her beauty really is a sight to see.

Last week I shared a photo of P!nk for Wordless-Wednesday - which you can see again here. At the end of that post, I mentioned that I would be sharing a sort of "Throwback - Thursday" post about P!nk's makeup look she adorned at the MTV Music Awards last month.

Here is a close up shot of P!nk walking down the Red Carpet:

She is simply glowing. Her makeup is truly flawless. The makeup has a very natural appearance - P!nk does not look overdone.  Makeup Artist, Kathy Jeung, did an outstanding  job putting P!nk's entire look together for the Red Carpet and her onstage performance.

Here is exactly how Kathy Jeung created this Red Carpet look:

"I applied COVERGIRL Natureluxe Silk Foundation using a foundation brush and moistened blender sponge. I then set with a dusting of COVERGIRL Professional Loose Powder. We used
COVERGIRL Clean Oil Control Pressed Powder for touch ups throughout the night."

How eye products were applied:

For the eyebrows:
"I used a few soft strokes of COVERGIRL Brow & EyeMakers Pencil in Soft Blonde to define, then brushed into place with COVERGIRL Professional Natural Lash Mascara in Clear."

For the eyes:
"I first applied COVERGIRL Eye Enhancers 1-Kit Shadow in Champagne all over the lid and brow bone as a base color. Next, I applied COVERGIRL SmokyShadowBlast in Onyx Smoke, using the dark grey side over the lid and into the crease. Over this I added COVERGIRL Queen Collection Eyeshadow Quads in Lionqueen, using the grey color to intensify and add more dimension."

Along the lower lash line
"I used COVERGIRL Liquiline Blast Eyeliner in Silver Spark and to add a little more dimension and to further blend; I added COVERGIRL Eye Enhancers 1-Kit Shadow in Golden Sunrise in the area just under the brow bone with a medium fluffy brush. Over curled lashes, I applied two coats of COVERGIRL LashBlast 24HR Mascara in Very Black."

How lip products were applied:
"I prepare the lips with a lip balm when I'm doing skin preparation so it has a chance to absorb into lips. I then lined the lips with COVERGIRL LipPerfection Lipliner in Smoky and applied COVERGIRL OutLast All-Day Lipcolor in Faint Hue."

Although the makeup used for P!nk's Red Carpet entrance was beautiful, my favorite was the way she looked when she came out on stage for her performance.

The change in P!nk's make-up was more dramatic - very fitting of  her normal "punk" style.  This is probably why this look was my favorite.

Here's how P!nk's performance make-up look was created by Kathy Jeung:

"I added COVERGIRL Eye Enhancers 1-Kit Shadow in Shimmering Onyx along the lower lash line, then lined the inside upper and lower rims of eyes with COVERGIRL Queen Collection Vivid Impact Eyeliner in Midnight. Using clear eyelash glue, I adhered appliqués onto her eyes that I cut out of red patent leather."

How cheek products were applied:
"I first applied COVERGIRL Cheekers Blush in Pretty Peach on the apples of the cheeks and blended outward and up. Then I applied COVERGIRL Cheekers Bronzer in Copper Radiance along the upper outer cheekbone area and also on outer temples (upper sides of face near eyes)."

How lip products were applied:
"I started with applying COVERGIRL LipPerfection Lipliner in Passion to define the lip edges then lightly powdered the edges to set, especially since I was working with a strong color.
After applying COVERGIRL Queen Collection Lip Color in Ruby Slipper, I blotted the lips after the first coat with a tissue, lightly powdered the edges with a powder puff and re-applied the lip color using a lip brush for extra staying power and intensity."

Now it's your turn:  Which was your favorite P!nk makeup look? Her Red Carpet "natural" look, or her Performance "dramatic punk" look?  Share your thoughts in the comments!
