Valentine's Day DIY Nail Inspiration - The Daily Fashion and Beauty News

1. Mini hearts: Use two coats of Florence, a classic camel crème polish. Let dry, then use a toothpick or the dotting tool in the Creativity Kit to make the heart with Shawn, a poppy pink polish. First make two dots, then add the bottom triangle of the heart.

2. Dots with Naked Nail: Start with a clear base coat. Create the naked naked look by cutting out a V-shape out of scotch tape and sticking it on your nail. Use Shawn, our poppy polish, to fill in around the nail around the tape. Let dry, then use the Creativity Kit dotting tool or a toothpick to make white dots using Brigitte.

3. French Stripes: Apply two coats of Brigitte, a white crème polish, to all nails and let dry. Then, using the striping tool in the Creativity Kit or a toothpick to add your stripes. I always use scotch tape to help make guidelines for my lines, or else they often get squiggly!

4. Heart Accent Nail: On four nails, use two coats of Shawn, a poppy crème polish. Apply two coats of Brigitte, a white crème polish, to your accent nail. Let dry. Then, with a tooth pick or Creativity Kit add the heart on white nail, starting with two dots and then filling in the rest of the heart.

Red + Gold Ombre Nail Tutorial

Hello there Gorgeous!

Can you believe that the month of November is almost over?  I can't. It's crazy how quickly the days go by once Halloween is over. But, there is a silver lining: the Holidays are right around the corner.

And that's something we all look forward to, amiright?

So, if you’re starting to feel the holiday vibes, then you’ll want to check out this new nail art tutorial from our close friends at Julep.

Recently, they shared a gold-and-red ombre nail look that will bump up those festive feelings and get you ready for Turkey Day and beyond.  Best part about it is that this ombre tutorial is so easy, you don’t have to be a nail artist to create this shimmery look.

To begin, this is what you'll need to accomplish these beautiful red + gold ombre nails.

This nail tutorial uses two polish shades from Julep's new Jingle Bells Welcome Box – which you can get for FREE when you join the Julep beauty box subscription. Once you join, you’ll get a box of on-trend, gorgeous, and good-for-you products delivered to your doorstep every month.  On the other hand, if you’re already a Maven (like I am!), you can snag these colors in Julep's  Very Merry Polish Duo gift set.

Now it's time to get into this easy Red + Gold Ombre Nail Tutorial.

Red + Gold Ombre Nail Tutorial - The Daily Fashion and Beauty News

To get started, pick a gold and a sparkly red polish (they are using Margot Bombshell and Neely from the Jingle Bells box) and follow these simple steps:

1) Paint one coat of Gold, then let dry completely.
2) Dab a makeup sponge with the red glitter polish
3) Blot the makeup sponge on the tip of the nail to create the ombre effect.

Then, add the top coat, and you’re done!

These red + gold ombre nails are perfect for the upcoming Holidays. You can wear these nails for Thanksgiving dinner or for Christmas - while opening your gifts ;)

For those of you who may not be all about red and gold, here is another similar ombre nail tutorial we shared a few weeks ago: Galaxy Inspired Ombre Nail Tutorial

Ombre Nail Tutorial + Free Welcome Box Offer

The Daily Fashion and Beauty News

I love going to the nail salon to get a weekly manicure. It's one of those small treats that really helps make me feel  "put together".

On those rare occasions when I can't make it to the salon, then I typically just paint my nails using of the many Julep nail colors I have in my collection. When I do take the time to give myself a manicure, I always make a point of creating effortless simple nail art.

One of the easiest nail art designs to create are ombre nails.

True enough, ombre isn’t a new trend–we’ve been seeing it for years, on everything from clothing to nail art to hair. And yet, its popularity still isn’t fading!

Recently, Julep shared a new ombre nail art tutorial that uses colors from their 'Fall Into Ombre' Welcome Box - FREE when you join Julep Maven.

Let's get started with this easy quick Ombre Nail Tutorial:

1. Choose three polishes that blend well together, spanning from dark to light. Not sure what to pick? You can’t go wrong with a deep, opaque color, a lighter shade of the same color, and white. Polish your nails with your darkest color. Allow them to dry.

2. Pour two small dollops of your medium and light colors on a smooth surface (like a piece of wax paper). The two dollops together should be about two-thirds the length of your nails. Use a toothpick or orangewood stick to swirl them together slightly so they mix in the middle, forming a gradient.

3. Dip the edge of a cosmetic sponge directly into your dollops of nail polish then align the sponge so that the lightest color is at the tip of your nail. Press the polish onto your nails with the sponge, dabbing and repeating until you achieve the desired effect. This doesn’t have to be precise!

4. Clean up the edges with our polish corrector pen or a thin brush dipped in polish remover. Finish with a top coat. Voilà!

Now, let's move on to the best part of this article ... Your FREE Welcome Box Offer:

Get the colors used in this look for FREE when you join Julep Maven, the subscription beauty box program.

As a Julep Maven you’ll receive a box of brand-new, full sized nail color and beauty products each month – and believe me ... you deserve it!

Either way, you are going to LOVE being a Maven (I know I do!).

So tell me: Are you going to give this ombre nail tutorial a try?  If so, what color nail polish will you chose?

Easy Do It Yourself Manicure

Today's easy do it yourself post is going to kill two birds with one stone. How? Well, it just so happens to be Day 9 of the Latina Lifestyle Photo Challenge and today's daily prompt is nail art. {To see what the photo challenge is about and join in on the fun click HERE}.

Now that one bird has been whacked {poor birdie!} let's get our stones together and tackle this Easy Do it Yourself Manicure post.

Putting makeup on or dressing up for a special occasion is very easy, but has it ever happened to you that when you're all dressed up, some broken or badly manicured nails ruin your image? Most likely this has happened to you, it's happened to all of us. It's hard to get a manicure every week, and also expensive. That's why in this article we're sharing with you the best tips we know of to do your own manicure at home and always have impeccable hands.

1. START AT THE BEGINNING

Set a day of the week to dedicate a few minutes to your hands. That way it will be easier to always keep them impeccable. For me, for example, I know that Sundays are my day of "beauty at home"; I take advantage of the day to take care of my hands, apply a facial masque and then fix my hair. I set apart some hours every week to dedicate them to me. It's great. Try it! What's more, you deserve it.

2. WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO A MANICURE AT HOME?

To do your own manicure at home, you don't need much more than the following tools:

Orange stick:
Orange Wood Stick Cuticle Pusher Manicure Lot of 100
The orange stick removes the cuticle and the dirt from your nails. They are very economical and are very useful. I also use them to remove nail polish from around the fingers when I accidentally paint outside my fingernail contour. Just soak the orange stick in nail polish remover and quickly remove the edges.

Nail clipper:
JMK 06820 Nail Clipper Set - 3 Piece
It's better to file your nails to shape them, but sometimes it's necessary to cut them to equal lengths. Use a nail clipper instead of scissors.

File or emery board:
Tweezerman Nail File Collection Pack of Emery Boards, 0.7 Ounce
Invest in a good, long-lasting file. The best ones are made of cardboard. Choose a size that you like and keep it. Also, there are some files that are stronger on one side than on the other. These are the ideal kind because that way you only have to buy one.

Nail buffer and polisher:
FPO Lil' Whistler 3-Way Nail Buffer 3.25"
Usually files have one side to file the nail and another to give it shine. If it's not the case with yours, obtain a nail buffer and polisher. These smooth out your nails if they're peeling.

Transparent treatment nail polish:
You need to choose something that works well with you. If your nails are always breaking, you need a nail hardener, of if they're dry, you need a moisturizing treatment. Usually any pharmacy will have an entire treatment range at very accessible prices. This nail polish also serves as a transparent nail polish when you don't feel like painting them.

Cuticle oil:
Essie Apricot Cuticle Oil Nail Treatment
This is one of the best buys you can make to have impeccable hands. These oils soften and moisturize the cuticle. If you are not very good at cutting your cuticles, you can skip this step by using this product.

Colored nail polish:
Choose the colors you like and that coordinate with the image you want to project. For example, if you have a special dinner, paint your nails a wine red. It looks very nice, especially if your nails aren't too long. Or, for example, if you have a business lunch, paint your fingernails a porcelain tone; it's very elegant and discrete. If you feel like adding a touch of color and fun, paint your nails a dark pink. Why not?

Protective/strengthening polish:
This foundation will help your colored nail polish to last longer and will also add a nice shine to your polish.

Exfoliating lotion:
Veris Dead Sea Natural Cosmetics - Nourishing and Moisturizing Hand & Nail Cream
You can use a body exfoliating lotion or else you can make a natural one with sugar and olive oil. Try it it's amazing! This is one of my most ancient tips. I don't remember where I read it or from whom I learned it, but the truth is that I use it every week and I love it! All you need are two teaspoons of white sugar and four tablespoons of virgin olive oil (if you prefer, you can use moisturizing body oil, but olive oil has worked well for me. Mix together well and apply to your hands, rubbing them gently. Don't forget the fingers and the nails. You can also use this exfoliating lotion on your forearms and elbows; then rinse yourself with lukewarm water. Your hands will feel soft and like new!

Moisturizing hand cream:
Buy a good moisturizer for your hands, one that adapts to your needs. For example, if your hands crack easily or you have dark spots...buy what you need.

Nail polish remover:
Super Nail Non Acetone Polish Remover, 16 Ounce
The ones that are especially good are those that don't contain acetone, as this is very aggressive and many people are allergic to it.

3. Now that you have all your supplies, follow these simple steps:

1. Remove all nail polish from your nails.

2. Cut your nails to an equal length.

3. File your nails and use the buffer to leave them smooth.

4. Use the orange stick to eliminate any leftover dirt and to softly remove the cuticles (I don't recommend cutting the cuticles at home, as I think this is very difficult and a job best left to professionals. I know that some of you do this. If you already do this and you're happy with the result, continue doing so. If not, just try to soften them with cuticle oil.)

5. Exfoliate your hands. Follow the advice we gave you previously. You'll see the result immediately.

6. Dry your hands well. This step is very important. If you've exfoliated your hands with olive oil and you don't dry your hands off well, especially the nails, the nail polish will not last long. Remember to dry yourself carefully.

7. Paint your nails. Follow this order: treatment foundation, colored nail polish, another coat of colored nail polish, and protective/strengthening nail polish. I know, it's a lot of coats, but remember that you want your nails to look perfect all week long.

8. Moisturize your hands. Lastly and once at least an hour has gone by (yes, one hour if not, after all the effort, your nails will be immediately ruined when you apply the moisturizer), moisturize your hands carefully. You will feel like new!

Here are a few extras for you:

Paint your fingernails while you watch TV or listen to music or read a magazine. Take some time to relax, and take advantage of it while the polish dries.  You can follow the majority of these steps on your feet as well. The exfoliating cream is great for your feet...

Once a month, you should cover your hands in a moisturizing face masque and put on some cotton gloves. Sleep in them, and the next day your hands will feel like new.  Do this manicure every two months. It's a pleasant luxury, and that way your hands will need much less care, especially the cuticles.

Whenever a cuticle acts up, apply oil on it. You will see how upon moisturizing it, it will immediately soften and won't bother you.

Remember: Our hands are an important part of our personal image. Don't neglect them!

Now it's your turn:  How often do you like to give yourself a manicure?

How To Do-It-Yourself : Chevron Nails #NailArt

During the past few months Do-It-Yourself  nail-art has come to be one of the most popular crafts seen YouTube. Personally, I am not that much of a Do-It-Yourself  kind of gal, but with the help of my nine year old daughter - we have spent time trying most of the nail art tutorials; some with great success - others not so much!

Over the summer vacation, my Little Diva was been bitten by the vlog bug. She enjoys sitting on the floor in the office or in her bedroom with either the IPAD or laptop watching  videos on You-Tube. She has tried quite a few of the most popular nail art styles, such as polka dots, water marble, ombre, and half moons.

Recently, she told me she wants to try doing Chevron nail-art. From what I have seen, there seems to be several ways to get this colorful zig-zag pattern done on your nails.

Luckily, I was researching through tons of emails this morning when I just happened to come across a DIY Chevron Nail Art tutorial from Birchbox.  According to the tutorial, you need two things - a sharp pair of Scrapbook Scissors and clear tape. The only side-note about doing this particular nail art style is that it is better to complete it within two days.

But, please don't take my word for it. All you need is about three minutes to watch the video to see how simple achieving a Chevron nail really is:

Now it's your turn: How do you typically get your nails painted? Do you try these DIY nail tutorials? OR are you a classic beauty that chooses to stick with solid nail color? Let us know in the comments!

PS - Don't forget about the Photo Collage Contest we are starting on our facebook page! We are in the process of working out the details - so please stay tuned for more info - Better yet, to make sure you don't miss a thing, make sure to like our page!

Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color

You may have heard the news that this Summer's Beauty VoxBox from Influenster included a sample of two nail products from  Sally Hansen: the Magnetic Nail Color (valued at $9.99) and a tube of Nails & Cuticles Hand Creme (valued at $5.99)

I was able to try both products this past weekend while giving myself a much needed manicure. But before I go into my opinions, I want to give you a closer look at both products starting off with the Nails & Cuticles Hand Creme.

Before painting my nails, I washed my hands with oatmeal soap and tepid water. I tend to do this first because it makes it easier to push back my cuticles. So once I do this, I immediately lather my hands up with lotion. For this manicure, I used the 1 oz. sample tube of Nails & Cuticles Hand Creme I received. The creme has a medium consistency, it's not as thick as I was expecting it to be, however, when rubbed into my skin and cuticles, the creme was quickly absorbed giving my skin a silky smooth feeling. The creme proved to be very nourishing and it did help my hands feel softer throughout the day. One point I must stress, a little dab of this creme goes a long way! I really didn't have to use that much of it to see how well it works - that's something I can really appreciate.

After using the Nails & Cuticles Hand Creme, I moved onto my favorite part of a manicure - the nail polish!

The Magnetic Nail Color I received was #903 Silver Elements. After briefly reading the instructions on the back of the bottle, I gave this polish a try. Getting this magnetic nail art effect on your nails is very simple. Once the first coat of color dried I put a second coat on, then using the magnet on the top side of the bottle cap, I placed it over the nail (while still wet) holding it for about 1-2 min. I did this one nail at a time as the magnet only works on wet polish. While doing each nail individually, I did notice that the longer the magnet is held over the wet polish, the more defined the design becomes.

With all this being said, I am very satisfied with these two products. I appreciate the fact that with the Magnetic Nail Color I can easily have this done on my nails anytime I wish and most of all with no complications. I do not have the patience that is required when doing certain nail art effects! Anything that can make the DIY process easier for me is a huge plus!

For more information on the Magnetic Nail Color from Sally Hansen please visit their website

Now it's your turn: Which shade of the Magnetic Nail Color do you want to try? Have you tried to get this magnetic trend on your nails yet?

Please join in on the convo - We love hearing from our readers!

Disclaimer: As an active member of Influenster, I received these complimentary products for testing purposes which were included in the Summer Beauty VoxBox package. All opinions and photos in this post are 100% my very own.

Kiss Nail Dress

Here is my nail design

The Kiss Nail Dress really does what it claims: it sticks. I received a complimentary package of  Kiss Nail Dress  in my Influenster #LoveVoxBox which I have used to test and post this review.

Kiss Nail Dress are nail stickers that have fashion jeweled designs on them. The box has 28 stickers - each strip comes with 12 stickers in different sizes to fit both nails and toes. Inside the package is also a nail file - which came in handy when I used the file to contour the edges of the strips so they were flush with my own nails.

This strip has stickers fit for your nails and nail file

These are the nail strips for your toes - the sizes are bigger than those for hands

Application of the jeweled strips is extremely easy. So easy, even my nine year old daughter applied them in matter of minutes!
Here is Lil Diva's nail style

The strips are sturdy which lets them stand up very well when exposed to water. For me this is an added bonus - I spend lots of time in the kitchen cooking and washing dishes. As of today, I have had them on for about 5 days - there is no bunching, the strips are still intact covering the entire nail surface! According to the Kiss Nail Dress packaging, these strips can last up to 10 days, but I am confident these can last longer.

The strips I received are named "Cocktail". They are pink zebra stripes with jewels. I was glad to see that Kiss has 18 different fashion forward styles to choose from.

Check out the 18 Styles Here:

It doesn't end there! If you go to Kiss Nail Dress you will find tips on how to create different styles using the nail strips. So, no matter what style of nail art you are into, I'm positive that the Kiss Nail Dress has the perfect style you're looking for!

Where to Buy
Nail Dress’ suggested retail is $6.99 and is available in all major drug chains and mass retailers like WalMart, CVS and Walgreens.

*Disclaimer: The products included in the #lovevoxbox received from influester.com were sent to me for review as part of the VoxBox program - which is completely complimentary. However, ALL photos, videos and opinions are 100% my own.
